In the Old Testament, the Psalms serve as the inspired hymnal of praise. Whether celebrating Yahweh's majestic reign over the cosmos, recounting His covenantal deliverances, or thanking Him for individual mercies, the psalmists lift their voices with harps, trumpets, and joyful shouts. Praise is fitting for the upright (Psalm 33:1), because God alone is worthy of total adoration. Praise also functions as a spiritual weapon that silences the adversary and focuses the heart on divine sovereignty.
In the New Testament, worship is transfigured by the revelation of Jesus Christ. To the Samaritan woman at the well, Jesus revealed that true worshippers must worship the Father in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24).
