Exodus 25 Comparison: Catholic Public Domain vs Douay-Rheims

chevron_leftchevron_right

Exodus 25

1And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

2“Speak to the sons of Israel, so that they may take the first-fruits to me. You shall accept these from every man who offers of his own accord.

3Now these are the things that you must accept: Gold, and silver, and brass,

4hyacinth and purple, and twice-dyed scarlet, and fine linen, the hair of goats,

5and the skins of rams, dyed red, and skins of violet, and setim wood,

6oil to prepare lights, aromatics as ointments and sweet-smelling incense,

7onyx stones and gems to adorn the ephod as well as the breastplate.

8And they shall make a sanctuary for me, and I will live in their midst.

9According to exact likeness of the tabernacle, and all of the vessels for its rituals, that I will reveal to you, so shall you make it.

10Join together an ark of setim wood, whose length shall hold two and one half cubits; the width, one and one half cubits; the height, likewise, one and one half cubits.

11And you shall overlay it with the finest gold, inside and out. And over it, you shall fashion a gold crown all around,

12and four gold rings, which you shall set into the four corners of the ark. Let two rings be on one side and two on the other.

13Likewise, you shall make bars of setim wood and cover them with gold.

14And you shall put them through the rings that are in the sides of the ark, so that it may be carried on them.

15These must always be in the rings, neither shall they ever be drawn out of them.

16And you shall place the testimony, which I will give to you, in the ark.

17You shall also make a propitiatory of the finest gold. Its length shall hold two and one half cubits, and the width, one and one half cubits.

18Likewise, you shall make two Cherubim of formed gold, on both sides of the oracle.

19Let one Cherub be on the one side, and the other be on the other.

20And let them cover both sides of the propitiatory, spreading their wings and covering the oracle, and let them look out toward one another, their faces being turned toward the propitiatory, with which the ark is to be covered,

21in which you will place the testimony that I will give to you.

22From there, I will warn you and speak to you, above the propitiatory and from the middle of the two Cherubim, which will be over the ark of the testimony, about everything that I will command of the sons of Israel through you.

23You shall also make a table of setim wood, having two cubits of length, and one cubit in width, and one cubit and one half cubits in height.

24And you shall overlay it with the purest gold. And you shall make it with a gold lip all around,

25and for the lip itself an engraved crown, four fingers high, and above it another little gold crown.

26Likewise, you shall prepare four gold rings and set them in the four corners of the same table, over each foot.

27Under the crown, there shall be gold rings, so that the bars may be put through them and the table may be carried.

28Likewise, the bars themselves you shall make of setim wood, and surround them with gold, to lift up the table.

29You shall also prepare small cups, as well as bowls, censers, and measuring cups, with which the libations shall be offered, out of the purest gold.

30And you shall place upon the table the bread of the presence, in my sight always.

31You shall also make a lampstand, formed from the finest gold, along with its stem and arms, its bowl and little spheres, as well as the lilies proceeding from it.

32Six branches shall go out from the sides: three out of one side and three out of the other.

33Three bowls, the size of nuts, shall be on each branch, and a little sphere with it, and a lily. And three similar bowls, in the likeness of nuts, shall be on the other branch, and a little sphere with it, and a lily. This shall be the form of the six branches, which are to proceed from the stem.

34Then, in the lampstand itself, there shall be four bowls, the size of nuts, and each with little spheres and lilies.

35Little spheres under two branches in three places, which together make six, shall proceed from one of the stems.

36Thus both the little spheres and the branches shall be made out of the same thing: entirely formed from the purest gold.

37You shall also make seven lamps, and you shall place them upon the lampstand, so that they may give light in every direction.

38Likewise, the candle snuffers, and the place where the candles will be extinguished, shall be made from the purest gold.

39The entire weight of the candlestick, with all its parts, shall hold one talent of the purest gold.

40Observe, and then make it according to the example that was shown to you on the mountain.”

Exodus 25

1And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

2Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring firstfruits to me: of every man that offereth of his own accord, you shall take them.

3And these are the things you must take: Gold, and silver, and brass,

4Violet and purple, and scarlet twice dyed, and fine linen, and goats' hair,

5And rams' skins dyed red, and violet skins, and setim wood:

6Oil to make lights: spices for ointment, and for sweetsmelling incense:

7Onyx stones, and precious stones to adorn the ephod and the rational.

8And they shall make me a sanctuary, and I will dwell in the midst of them:

9According to all the likeness of the tabernacle which I will shew thee, and of all the vessels for the service thereof: and thus you shall make it:

10Frame an ark of setim wood, the length whereof shall be of two cubits and a half; the breadth, a cubit and a half; the height, likewise, a cubit and a half.

11And thou shalt overlay it with the purest gold, within and without; and over it thou shalt make a golden crown round about:

12And four golden rings, which thou shalt put at the four corners of the ark: let two rings be on the one side, and two on the other.

13Thou shalt make bars also of setim wood, and shalt overlay them with gold.

14And thou shalt put them in through the rings that are in the sides of the ark, that it may be carried on them:

15And they shall be always in the rings, neither shall they at any time be drawn out of them.

16And thou shalt put in the ark the testimony which I will give thee.

17Thou shalt make also a propitiatory of the purest gold: the length thereof shall be two cubits and a half, and the breadth a cubit and a half.

18Thou shalt make also two cherubims of beaten gold, on the two sides of the oracle.

19Let one cherub be on the one side, and the other on the other.

20Let them cover both sides of the propitiatory, spreading their wings, and covering the oracle, and let them look one towards the other, their faces being turned towards the propitiatory wherewith the ark is to be covered.

21In which thou shalt put the testimony that I will give thee.

22Thence will I give orders, and will speak to thee over the propitiatory, and from the midst of the two cherubims, which shall be upon the ark of the testimony, all things which I will command the children of Israel by thee.

23Thou shalt make a table also of setim wood, of two cubits in length, and a cubit in breadth, and a cubit and a half in height.

24And thou shalt overlay it with the purest gold: and thou shalt make to it a golden ledge round about.

25And to the ledge itself a polished crown, four inches high; and over the same another little golden crown.

26Thou shalt prepare also four golden rings, and shalt put them in the four corners of the same table, over each foot.

27Under the crown shall the golden rings be, that the bars may be put through them, and the table may be carried.

28The bars also themselves thou shalt make of setim wood, and shalt overlay them with gold, to bear up the table.

29Thou shalt prepare also dishes, and bowls, censers, and cups, wherein the libations are to be offered, of the purest gold.

30And thou shalt set upon the table loaves of proposition in my sight always.

31Thou shalt make also a candlestick of beaten work, of the finest gold, the shaft thereof, and the branches, the cups, and the bowls, and the lilies going forth from it.

32Six branches shall come out of the sides, three out of one side, and three out of the other.

33Three cups as it were nuts to every branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily: and three cups likewise of the fashion of nuts in the other branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily. Such shall be the work of the six branches, that are to come out from the shaft:

34And in the candlestick itself shall be four cups in the manner of a nut, and at every one bowls and lilies.

35Bowls under two branches in three places, which together make six, coming forth out of one shaft.

36And both the bowls and the branches shall be of the same beaten work of the purest gold.

37Thou shalt make also seven lamps, and shalt set them upon the candlestick, to give light over against.

38The snuffers also, and where the snuffings shall be put out, shall be made of the purest gold.

39The whole weight of the candlestick, with all the furniture thereof, shall be a talent of the purest gold.

40Look, and make it according to the pattern that was shewn thee in the mount.
