What Does I Chronicles 22:9 Mean?

David says that a son will be born to him who will be a man of rest, and the Lord will give him rest from all his enemies round about; his name will be Solomon, and God will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days. Chronicles links person, name, and kingdom condition in one sentence. Solomon is introduced as the fitting ruler for the temple era because his reign will carry the sign of divinely granted rest.

The Lord builds His house in an atmosphere He Himself creates. Peace and quietness are not achievements Solomon manufactures from nowhere. They are gifts granted around him. That matters because the temple is never the monument of a successful administration alone. It is the fruit of granted rest in which worship can be ordered and enjoyed without immediate siege or bloodshed pressing at the gates.

Matthew 11:28 to 29 and Hebrews 4:8 to 10 bring this before us promised rest with the Son's house in view. The greater Son does not simply inherit a peaceful season; He gives true rest to His people. Solomon's named peace here clears the path for that fuller Sabbath king.
